Avito from abroad: why it won’t open and what to check

In short

According to kod.ru of April 15, 2026, Avito won’t open from a foreign home IP without a VPN. Our October 3–4 checks gave code 200 at times and an “Access restricted” warning with code 429 or 439 at others, and even a Russian data center got a verification page on one of two checks. So check the site again and don’t draw conclusions from a single response. You can test a Russian IP address for free (7 days with Liberum VPN), but we do not guarantee the result.

Avito from abroad: why it won’t open and what to check — if you open the Avito site from another country and see “Access restricted,” we explain what that means. According to kod.ru, Avito won’t open from a foreign home IP without a VPN. We checked the home page from several points and got different responses, so below we cover what we saw, what the sources say and what’s worth checking, including a Russian IP address (free, no guarantees).

Avito from abroad: what we saw

On our server in Tbilisi, the Avito home page returned code 200 on October 3, 2026 at 15:25 UTC, code 429 with Qrator protection at 17:17 UTC, and 429 again on October 4 at 05:19 UTC.

The Globalping points gave these responses on October 4. From Moscow (data center), the first check returned a “security check” page with code 439, and a repeat check from the same network returned code 200. From Kazakhstan and Germany (data centers), code 429 with “Access restricted: problem with IP.” From a Moscow network that Globalping labeled as home, code 429 with the same message.

So Avito’s response changes even for a single address. There are few checks, so they can’t support any statistics, and one code isn’t enough to conclude that it “won’t open.”

Why Avito won’t open: what the sources say

Kod.ru (published April 15, 2026, updated April 22) writes: “Avito (Au.ru). Doesn’t open from a foreign residential IP (that is, without a VPN).” Hi-Tech Mail (April 15, 2026) lists Avito among the sites and apps that, in its words, can’t be opened from foreign IP addresses.

On April 27, 2026, Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development said that key Russian websites work normally abroad, but Avito isn’t named in that wording: it refers to Gosuslugi, bank websites and marketplaces (Kommersant, April 27, 2026).

We couldn’t check Avito’s official help page: the support pages at support.avito.ru didn’t open during our check. So the article has no advice from Avito itself.

What we checked

Each check was a single GET request to the avito.ru home page, with no login, no search and no JavaScript. We didn’t test home networks abroad for Avito: we have data centers and two Russian points in Moscow.

When (UTC)Where from (country, network)Result
Oct 3, 2026, 15:25Georgia, Tbilisi: our server, data centercode 200
Oct 3, 2026, 17:17Georgia, Tbilisi: our server, data centercode 429, Qrator protection
Oct 4, 2026, 05:19Georgia, Tbilisi: our server, data centercode 429, Qrator protection
Oct 4, 2026, 15:51Russia, Moscow: data center (Globalping)code 439, “Access restricted: security check”
Oct 4, 2026, 16:05Russia, Moscow: same network, repeat check (Globalping)code 200, regular page
Oct 4, 2026, 16:05Russia, Moscow: network that Globalping labeled as homecode 429, “Access restricted: problem with IP”
Oct 4, 2026, 15:51Kazakhstan, Almaty: data center (Globalping)code 429, “Access restricted: problem with IP”
Oct 4, 2026, 15:51Germany, Falkenstein: data center (Globalping)code 429, “Access restricted: problem with IP”

Single checks. Each row is one check. The network type comes from the Globalping label; for the same network, the label differed between checks. Through a VPN, one check on October 8: code 439, details below.

What you can try: what to check if Avito won’t open

  • Try again later and from another network. Our responses for one address changed (200, 429, 439), so a single code proves nothing. Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development recommended retrying when there are access problems (Vedomosti, April 27, 2026).
  • Read the error text. In our checks, code 429 came with “Access restricted: problem with IP,” and code 439 with “security check”: this is about checking the address, not your account.
  • If the site won’t open without a VPN and your VPN is off, contact the service’s support, as Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development advises (Parlamentskaya Gazeta, May 6, 2026). We couldn’t check Avito’s support contacts.
  • Switch networks: from hotel Wi-Fi to local mobile internet or to another carrier (Parlamentskaya Gazeta, May 6, 2026). This is general advice for services; we didn’t test it for Avito separately.

A Russian IP for Avito: you can test it for free

According to kod.ru, Avito won’t open from a foreign home IP without a VPN. If the cause is the country of the address, a Russian address can be tested; that is our assumption, and we found no confirmation from Avito. The checks are contradictory, though: a Globalping probe in a Moscow data center got both code 439 and code 200, a Moscow network labeled as home got code 429, and our server in Tbilisi once got 200 too. On October 8, 2026, a request through the Russian location of Liberum VPN got the same “Access restricted: security check” page with code 439, and a repeat request got no response, so there are no guarantees.

Open the Liberum VPS bot, start the 7-day trial (no card needed), choose the Russian location, add the subscription link you receive to an app (for example, Happ), connect, and open Avito. The address is shared, not personal. Avito’s responses changed even for a single address, so try again later if needed. How the Russian location works and what the subscription includes is explained on a separate page.

What we don’t promise

  • That a Russian address will settle it at once: from a Moscow data center, a verification page (439) came up once, and a repeat request from the same network returned 200. There’s no guarantee, and the response may change.
  • That a single check tells you about access: Avito’s responses changed even for a single address.
  • That Avito will give an official answer: we couldn’t open its help page.
