Aeroflot not opening abroad: what the website shows

In short

The Aeroflot website does not open from abroad: instead, it shows a page with code 503 saying access is temporarily restricted by the website owner. Our October 4 test showed the same page from two Russian probes, so the country does not explain it. The page gives no reason, and we could not open Aeroflot’s official contacts. You can test a Russian IP address for free (7 days with Liberum VPN), but we do not guarantee the result.

Aeroflot doesn’t open from abroad: instead of the website, you get a page with code 503 and the text “Access to the website is temporarily restricted by the website owner.” Here we explain what the Aeroflot website shows from abroad, how Aeroflot behaves from abroad in our test of eight probes, and why, according to this data, the country makes no difference here. In our measurements, Aeroflot looks the same from different countries, but the cause cannot be determined from that. The measurement is one-off, and we did not find an official explanation. You can test a Russian IP address for free, but there are no guarantees.

What the Aeroflot website shows from abroad

In our measurements, www.aeroflot.ru returns the same page every time. Its text reads: “Access to the website is temporarily restricted by the website owner. Your web browser is now being checked. Please wait for the page to load. Requests from your IP address look automated. Your request to the website did not pass the security check.” Next, the page suggests contacting the website owner, mentions Lockdown Mode on Apple devices, and says that JavaScript is disabled in the browser.

The page does not give a reason and does not mention any country. It describes a check for automated requests, not a refusal based on the address. That does not mean the site is closed to everyone: in our measurements, the site itself did not open behind the check page, so we did not see its content.

This is not the same error as at the banks. The Aeroflot website’s certificate is issued by Let’s Encrypt, and Globalping accepted it as trusted. A certificate from Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development has nothing to do with it here; for bank errors, see a separate article.

What we checked: Aeroflot from abroad

One-off measurement, October 3 and 4, 2026.

  • Our probe, Tbilisi, data center (our server): three runs — two on October 3 and one on October 4. Each time, code 503 and the same page.
  • Globalping, October 4, GET request to www.aeroflot.ru, eight probes: all eight got code 503 and the same text. Russia: a home probe (Moscow) and a data-center probe (Saint Petersburg). Germany: a home probe (Frankfurt) and a data-center probe (Falkenstein). Kazakhstan: a home probe (Almaty) and a data-center probe (Almaty). Georgia: a home probe (Tbilisi) and a data-center probe (Tbilisi).

In our probes, the page is the same in Russia and abroad. Requests from Russian addresses got the same page, so in this test a Russian address did not get around the check. This is a single snapshot, but it shows no difference.

What you can try if Aeroflot won’t open abroad

  • Contacting the site owner. The page itself suggests contacting the website owner. We could not confirm Aeroflot’s official channels: the website, support and the app. The contacts page on aeroflot.ru also returned 503 in our check, so we do not list phone numbers or forms in this article.
  • Lockdown Mode on iPhone. The page mentions Apple’s Lockdown Mode. Apple describes how to exclude a specific website from this mode in Safari, through the website settings. If Lockdown Mode is not enabled on your device, this hint does not apply to you. Our probes are not iPhones, so in this test the mode explains nothing.

A Russian IP for the Aeroflot website: you can test it for free

A Russian address removes one possible cause: the country the request comes from. There are no guarantees: in the October 4 test, all eight probes got the check page, including two Russian ones, a home probe and a data-center probe, and on October 8 our request through the Russian location of Liberum VPN got the same page with code 503 too. Our test was one snapshot of requests made by a program, not a visit through your browser, so your result may differ; you can find out for free.

Open the Liberum VPS bot, start the 7-day trial (no card needed), choose the Russian location, add the subscription link you receive to an app (for example, Happ), connect, and open the Aeroflot website. The address is shared, not personal. If the check page is still there, contact the site owner, as the page itself advises. How the Russian location works and what the subscription includes is explained on a separate page.

What we don’t promise

  • That changing countries settles it. In our test, the page was the same from Germany, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Russia, including home probes, so a Russian address may change nothing.
  • That the Aeroflot app works from abroad. We did not check how it works, so we do not present it as a solution.

Aeroflot not opening abroad: what we don’t know

  • The cause. The page does not name it, and we did not see the site behind the check.
  • Official channels. Aeroflot’s website, support and app are not confirmed by our check.
  • How the app works from abroad.
  • Whether the site opens through the Russian location of Liberum VPN in a browser: on October 8, 2026, our program-based request through it got the same check page with code 503; whether a browser passes it, we don’t know.
  • Reports of the Aeroflot website being blocked specifically — we did not find any. There are general materials: in April 2026, Kommersant reported that a notification saying “It seems you have a VPN turned on” appeared in the app of one ticket aggregator, and similar problems occur when paying for bookings on some airlines’ websites.

In April 2026, Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development said that “state portals, banks, marketplaces and aggregators” work normally abroad, and that restrictions are possible because of individual countries, providers or large-scale DDoS attacks. The Aeroflot page does not explicitly link itself to any of these causes, and we do not link it to them either.

Key takeaways

  • The Aeroflot page abroad is a check for automated requests with code 503, not an explanation of the cause.
  • In our test of eight probes, including Russian ones, the page is the same.
  • We have not confirmed the cause or Aeroflot’s official support channels.
  • We did not check the Aeroflot app from abroad.
  • You can test a Russian IP address for free (7 days), but the result is not guaranteed: in our test, the Russian probes got the same page.

Frequently asked questions

What does “Access to the website is temporarily restricted by the website owner” mean?

That is the text of the page the site returns. It also says that the requests look automated and that the browser check needs to be passed. The site owner does not give a reason.

Will a Russian address help?

Not necessarily: in our October 4 test, the two Russian probes, a home one and a data-center one, returned the same code 503 and the same page; on October 8, a request through our Russian location got it too. There are no guarantees, but you can test a Russian address for free: 7 days with Liberum VPN, no card needed.

Why does the page mention Apple’s Lockdown Mode?

It is a hint on the page. Our probes are not iPhones, so the hint explains nothing in our test. If Lockdown Mode is enabled on your iPhone, Apple describes an exception for a specific website in Safari.

Where should I write if the site won’t open?

The page suggests contacting the site owner. Our check did not confirm Aeroflot’s official contacts, so we do not list them.

Does the Aeroflot app work from abroad?

We did not check. We found no confirmation in open sources that it works.
