T-Bank abroad: the website, the app and what to do
In short
In our checks, the T-Bank website fails the certificate check from abroad; its certificate was issued by the Ministry’s national certification centre, and home networks in Russia show the same. In July 2026, the app did not let customers in from outside Russia, and the bank advised a Russian IP address on iOS and RuStore Connect on Android. We did not confirm a VPN warning in the app itself.
Checked
T-Bank abroad: the website, the app and what to do is a question that has no single answer yet. In our checks, the bank’s website fails the certificate check, and in July 2026 the app did not let customers in from outside Russia. Below, we cover what we checked, what the bank said, what the RuStore help page says, and what we did not find.
T-Bank abroad: the website and its certificate
The certificate for www.tbank.ru was issued by Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development (“Russian Trusted Sub CA”). On its own page, the bank explains that because of sanctions, Russian services had their foreign security certificates revoked, and T-Bank switched to Russian ones. In a recommendation dated July 23, 2026, the Ministry advised keeping secure access to Russian sites and banks through its own security certificates (Interfax).
Our checks showed the same picture in Russia and abroad. From our server abroad, the certificate check failed three times (October 3 and 4). Through Globalping, code 200 came back from two home networks in Russia (Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk) and from home networks in Germany and Kazakhstan. In all four cases, the certificate was issued by the Ministry and did not pass the standard check.
For sites with Ministry certificates, we recommend Yandex Browser: according to Kommersant (August 4, 2026), it has the Ministry’s certificate installed by default. For the broader picture on Sberbank and T-Bank, see How to log in to Sberbank Online and T-Bank (Tinkoff) from abroad in 2026, and for certificates at other banks, see “Connection is not private” on the Sberbank, VTB, Alfa-Bank and RZD websites.
What we checked
The checks were one-time: one request to the home page of www.tbank.ru from each point, without logging in to the personal account and without installing apps. We did not check the iOS and Android apps or the personal account.
| Where from (country, network) | When (UTC) | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Our server (abroad) | Oct 3, 15:27 and 17:19; Oct 4, 05:18 | certificate check not passed, 3 of 3 |
| Russia, Nizhny Novgorod: home network (Globalping) | Oct 3, 17:37 | code 200; Ministry certificate, check not passed |
| Russia, Novosibirsk: home network (Globalping) | Oct 3, 17:37 | code 200; same |
| Germany, Berlin: home network (Globalping) | Oct 3, 17:37 | code 200; same |
| Kazakhstan, Almaty: home network (Globalping) | Oct 3, 17:37 | code 200; same |
One-time measurement. Each Globalping row is a single check, without a browser. The network type is taken from the Globalping label. Our server was checked three times. A code 200 does not mean the browser will show the page without a warning.
T-Bank app: what is known
On July 17, 2026, Hi-Tech Mail reported that customers outside Russia could not log in to the T-Bank and T-Investments apps, and that the personal account was not working. The bank replied that it was “working on fixing the situation” and advised: on iOS, switch to a Russian IP address; on Android, use RuStore Connect (Hi-Tech Mail, July 17, 2026).
We did not find a VPN warning specifically in the T-Bank app. Kommersant (April 20, 2026) describes a message reading “It seems you have a VPN turned on” in ticket aggregator apps, and T—Zh (April 15, 2026) does not mention T-Bank. Hi-Tech Mail (April 15, 2026) listed T-Bank among services that, it said, cannot be opened from foreign IP addresses, without details. iPhones.ru, citing Izvestia (April 14, 2026), writes about failures accessing T-Bank apps for users in Russia with a VPN turned on.
In the open sources we reviewed, we found no advice from the bank to “update the app.”
What helps: what to do if T-Bank won’t open abroad
- On iPhone, the bank advised a Russian IP address (Hi-Tech Mail, July 17, 2026). This is the bank’s recommendation; we did not test it.
- On Android, the bank advised RuStore Connect. According to the RuStore help page, Connect is a feature for accessing Russian services from abroad: it is available outside Russia, and connecting requires signing in through VK ID.
- According to the same help page, most operators in roaming route traffic through Russia, so Russian services should work without Connect. If something still does not work, the page advises connecting to a secure Wi-Fi network in the country you are in, opening RuStore, turning on Connect, and trying again.
- Switch networks: from hotel Wi-Fi to local mobile internet or to another operator (Parlamentskaya Gazeta, May 6, 2026).
- If the warning appears without a VPN, contact the service’s support, as the Ministry advises.
- For sites with Ministry certificates, we recommend Yandex Browser. The article contains no instructions for adding certificates manually.
What won’t help
- Changing countries or using a Russian address will not remove the certificate warning: in our checks, the picture was the same in Russia and abroad.
- The conclusion that “the site returns code 200, so everything works”: a response code says nothing about the certificate check.
- Counting on a timeline: in July, the bank only wrote that it was “working on fixing the situation” and did not name a deadline.
- A guarantee of any of these options: the bank did not promise a result, and the RuStore help page describes additional steps if something does not work via roaming.

Frequently asked questions
Does the T-Bank website open abroad?
In our checks, the site returned code 200, but its certificate was issued by the Ministry’s national certification centre and does not pass the standard check. The same picture appeared from home networks in Russia, so changing countries does not remove it.
Why did the T-Bank app not let customers in from abroad?
In July 2026, the bank did not name a cause: it said it was “working on fixing the situation.” For iOS it recommended a Russian IP address, and for Android, RuStore Connect (Hi-Tech Mail, July 17, 2026).
What is “Connect” in RuStore?
According to the RuStore help page, it is a feature for accessing Russian services from abroad. It is available outside Russia, and connecting requires signing in with VK ID.
Do I need to add certificates manually?
We don’t give instructions for this. For sites with Ministry certificates, we recommend Yandex Browser, which, according to Kommersant (August 4, 2026), has the Ministry’s certificate installed by default.
Does the T-Bank app show a VPN warning?
We could not confirm it. Kommersant (April 20, 2026) describes such a message in ticket aggregator apps; T—Zh (April 15, 2026) does not mention T-Bank. Hi-Tech Mail (April 15, 2026) included T-Bank in a list of services without details.
