Ivi and Wink abroad: why they don’t work and what you can try
In short
Under its agreement, the Russian version of Ivi works in Russia and eight other countries, including Georgia, while outside them the international ivi.tv version applies. Under its agreement, Wink works in Russia, Belarus and Armenia, and elsewhere it may say “Wink doesn’t work in your country or with a VPN turned on.” Since April 2026, both services have warned VPN users, and their agreements prohibit getting around territorial restrictions; on October 10, through our Russian location, ivi.ru opened without a redirect to ivi.tv and wink.ru showed its usual home page, but we did not play any video.
Checked
Ivi and Wink behave differently abroad. Under its user agreement, Ivi works in Russia and eight other countries, and in our check it sent a probe from Germany to its international version. Under its own agreement, Wink shows content in Russia, Belarus and Armenia, and outside them it may say that it doesn’t work in your country. Below: what the documents and help pages of both services say, what changed in April 2026, and what you can try.
Why Ivi and Wink don’t work abroad
Both services have the same reason: licensing territory. An online cinema gets the rights to films for specific countries and checks where a request comes from. This mechanism is explained in detail in our article how to watch Kinopoisk, Okko and VK Video from abroad; here we cover only what concerns Ivi and Wink.
Ivi: nine countries and the ivi.tv international version
In Ivi’s user agreement, the “Territory” means the Russian Federation, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Georgia. The agreement covers only this territory, and the international version of the service on the ivi.tv domain, which is available outside it, has a separate agreement.
Even within the territory, catalogs differ: under clause 5.3 of the agreement, different countries are shown different catalogs, and some films, TV channels and broadcasts are unavailable in certain countries. The service determines your country by IP address. Ivi’s help page on watching abroad adds that catalogs differ “under the terms of contracts with rights holders,” and that abroad only Russian and Soviet films and a small share of foreign videos are available.
Wink: Russia, Belarus and Armenia
Wink’s user agreement (as amended on September 1, 2026, clause 5.5) says that services and content are provided exclusively in Russia, except for access in Belarus and Armenia. Under clause 13.13, the user guarantees that they watch content from Russia and do not bypass technical measures that limit access to its borders; the same rule applies to Belarus and Armenia. A separate Wink help page says that its online TV service is available when connected to the internet through any provider “in the territory of the Russian Federation.”
In July 2026, according to iXBT citing Rostelecom’s press service, Wink started operating in Tajikistan: its first partner there was the operator MegaFon Tajikistan, whose subscribers got access to the subscription on special terms. It is the service’s third country in the former Soviet region, after Armenia (since 2022) and Belarus (since 2025), but the September 1 agreement does not mention Tajikistan.
What changed in April 2026: Ivi, Wink and VPNs
ComNews retells a TASS report: the agency’s source said that Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development had asked large platforms to restrict access for VPN users and that since April 15 the recommendation has been to block VPN traffic. On April 17, URA.RU reported that Russian online cinemas, Ivi among them, had started warning users: Ivi about part of its catalog being unavailable, while Wink says it doesn’t work with a VPN turned on and advises turning off the VPN or proxy and refreshing the page.
The services’ attitude to VPNs is also written into their documents. Under Ivi’s agreement (clause 5.3.4), the user guarantees not to use software such as a VPN that artificially changes their geographic access point; if this is detected, Ivi may block access or show the catalog based on the user’s actual location (clause 5.3.5). Wink’s agreement (clause 14.10) releases the service from responsibility for how it works when you connect from a foreign address or use tools that hide or change traffic routing.
What Ivi and Wink show when they don’t work
| Service | What the user sees | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Ivi | “Error 4530: Your IP address is detected as anonymous” (in Russian) | According to Ivi’s help page, the service restricts playback over a VPN, an open proxy or TOR “at the request of rights holders” |
| Ivi | A redirect from ivi.ru to ivi.tv | This is how ivi.ru responded to a probe in Germany on October 10: the international version instead of the Russian one |
| Wink | “Wink doesn’t work in your country or with a VPN turned on” (in Russian) | Wink’s geoblocking page: below it, the advice “Turn off your VPN or proxy and refresh the page” and a caveat that the service may be unavailable in some regions |
What we checked on October 10: Ivi and Wink from abroad
- Our server abroad. Over a week, October 3–10, 2026, it requested the ivi.ru and wink.ru home pages 16 times, and both sites served an ordinary page with code 200 on all 16 requests.
- Ivi, Globalping measurement service. From Germany (a home network in Frankfurt), ivi.ru responded with a redirect to www.ivi.tv, and ivi.tv opened with the same page title as ivi.ru. From Russia, Georgia and Kazakhstan, ivi.ru opened directly, while ivi.tv redirected back to ivi.ru. Kazakhstan is not on the list of countries in Ivi’s agreement, but the probe there got ivi.ru; we did not check which catalog is shown there.
- Wink, Globalping. The wink.ru home page opened with code 200 from Russia, Armenia, Georgia and the United States. From Germany and Kazakhstan, it returned code 503 and a browser check page, “Your browser failed the check” (in Russian): this is bot protection, not a country block.
A home page is not a film. Our tools do not run JavaScript and do not play video, so we did not check the catalog, account login or playback. We don’t know whether these probes would have seen the “Wink doesn’t work in your country” page.
What you can try
- If you are in one of Ivi’s countries. In Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Georgia, Ivi works under its own agreement, but the catalog there may differ from the Russian one.
- If you are in another country, the international version of Ivi. Under the agreement, the ivi.tv version applies outside the territory, and in our check the probe from Germany was redirected exactly there. We did not check the ivi.tv catalog or prices.
- Wink in Belarus, Armenia and Tajikistan. The September 1, 2026 agreement allows access in Belarus and Armenia, but Tajikistan is not in it. There, according to iXBT, Wink’s partner is MegaFon Tajikistan, and the operator’s subscribers got the subscription on special terms.
- Error 4530 on Ivi. The help page advises turning off your VPN, proxy and TOR and restarting your Wi-Fi router, and if the error comes back, contacting your internet provider’s support.
- The services’ support teams. Wink has the address support@wink.ru and a chat on its help page; Ivi has its support center at ask.ivi.ru.
Ivi and Wink through a Russian IP: what you can test during the trial
Ivi and Wink determine your country by IP address, so a Russian address may help with a territorial restriction. But since April 2026, according to URA.RU, both services have been warning VPN users, Ivi’s help page explicitly mentions restricting playback over a VPN, and Ivi’s agreement allows it to show the catalog based on your actual location. Through the Russian location of Liberum VPN, we opened only the home pages of both websites (what they showed is at the end of this section), so we cannot promise that a film will play.
Before you try, weigh the main point: under the agreements of both services, this breaks their rules. Under clause 5.3.4 of Ivi’s agreement, the user guarantees not to use a VPN or other software that artificially changes their geographic access point, and if the service detects this, it may block access (clause 5.3.5). Wink requires you to watch content while in Russia (for Armenia and Belarus, while in those countries) and not to bypass technical measures that limit access to Russia’s borders (clause 13.13), and if the agreement is breached, it may block the account and IP addresses without warning (clause 12.1.9). If you have already paid for a subscription, keep this risk in mind. The decision is yours.
If you still decide to test it: in the Liberum VPS bot, start the 7-day trial (no card required), select the Russian location, move the subscription link into an app (Happ, for example, will do), connect, and go to ivi.ru or wink.ru in a browser. Keep in mind that the Russian address is not assigned to you: many of the service’s customers go online through it. More on how to get a Russian IP address from abroad is on a separate page.
We requested the Ivi and Wink home pages through the Russian location of Liberum VPN on October 10 at 20:16 UTC, without a browser: the program does not run JavaScript and does not play video. www.ivi.ru responded with code 200 and the title of the Russian version, “Ivi online cinema…” (in Russian), and did not send us to the international ivi.tv, although on the same day it redirected the probe from Germany exactly there. wink.ru also returned code 200 and its ordinary home page, “Wink: TV channels, films and series…” (in Russian), whereas it gave the probes from Germany and Kazakhstan code 503 and the “Your browser failed the check” page. We did not test account login, the catalog or playback, we don’t know whether a browser with JavaScript would show a VPN warning, and this result does not cancel the ban on getting around territorial restrictions in both services’ agreements.
What we don’t promise
- That Ivi and Wink will play a film through the Russian location. Since April 2026, both services have been warning VPN users, and our Russian location works precisely through a VPN.
- That your account won’t be blocked. Under its agreement, Ivi may close access if it notices an artificial change of location, and Wink may block the account and IP addresses without warning.
- That the catalog will be the same as in Russia. Under Ivi’s agreement, if your location is changed artificially, the service may show the catalog for your actual location or block access.
- That the TV or phone app will work. We did not test the apps, only the websites’ home pages.
- That the lists of countries will stay the same. Wink’s list has already changed: Armenia since 2022, Belarus since 2025, and since July 2026 Tajikistan through a local operator, even though the September 1 agreement doesn’t include it.
Key takeaways
- Under its agreement, Ivi works in Russia and eight other countries, including Georgia, and outside them the international ivi.tv version applies.
- Under its agreement, Wink works in Russia, Belarus and Armenia; it came to Tajikistan in July 2026 together with MegaFon Tajikistan, but that country is not in the agreement.
- Since April 2026, according to URA.RU, both services have been warning VPN users, and Ivi’s help page describes error 4530 for VPNs, proxies and TOR.
- On October 10, ivi.ru redirected a probe from Germany to ivi.tv, and wink.ru opened from Russia, Armenia, Georgia and the United States.
- You can get a Russian IP for free for the trial period (7 days), but Ivi’s and Wink’s agreements prohibit getting around territorial restrictions; on October 10, the home pages of both services opened through our location, and we did not play any films.

Frequently asked questions
Which countries does Ivi work in?
Under its user agreement: Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Georgia. Outside them, an international version on the ivi.tv domain applies, with a separate agreement.
Which countries does Wink work in?
Under its agreement as amended on September 1, 2026: Russia, as well as Belarus and Armenia. Tajikistan is not in the agreement, but in July 2026, according to iXBT citing Rostelecom, Wink started operating there too: its first partner was the mobile operator MegaFon Tajikistan, whose subscribers got the subscription on special terms.
What does error 4530 mean on Ivi?
Ivi has identified your IP address as anonymous. According to its help page, the service restricts playback over a VPN, an open proxy or TOR at the request of rights holders, and advises turning them off and restarting your router.
Why does Ivi have fewer films abroad?
Catalogs depend on the country under the terms of contracts with rights holders. According to Ivi’s help page, only Russian and Soviet films and a small share of foreign ones are available abroad.
Will a Russian IP address help?
It may lift a territorial restriction, but the agreements of both services prohibit this kind of workaround, and since April 2026 Ivi and Wink have warned VPN users. On October 10, through our Russian location, a program without JavaScript received the ordinary home pages of both services, but we did not test login or playback. You can check during the free trial (7 days), but keep in mind the risk of your account being blocked.
Test a Russian IP for free with LIBERUM VPN
Whether a service opens from a Russian address depends on the service and your network, so there are no guarantees. The first 7 days are free, no card required, so you can test it yourself.
